We are happy to inform you that we are organizing the SPANISH FILM FESTIVAL 2025 in association with the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi and the Consulate of Spain in Chennai at Tagore Film Centre NFDC, Music College Road, Chennai – 600028. We will be presenting 5 feature films as per the schedule below.

The festival will be inaugurated by Mr. Antony Lobo, Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Spain. Mr. Sivan Kannan, President of ICAF will preside over the function and Mr. Anand Rengasamy, Vice President of ICAF will give the welcome address. Mrs. Vinolia Lobo will light the lamp.

A homage to the Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca, the plot revolves around the life of Rafa, a lawyer-activist set on helping people facing home eviction and who put his commitment to lost causes before his family, formed by wife Helena and stepson Raúl. Over the course of 24 dramatic hours, Rafa’s story intertwines with those of Azucena (a retail cashier living with Manuel about to lose her home), and Teodora (an old woman who has lost her home in the wake of providing monetary guarantee to her son).

At early 90s Mauricio, a Spanish rock and roll musician trying to reconnect with his vocation travels through Argentina, where he meets an elderly musician going through hard times. The plot follows the plight of Spanish rocker Mauricio, who leaves his band and wanders around Latin America seeking to rediscover his musical vocation. He becomes acquainted with folk genres such as the chacarera in Santiago del Estero, and teams up with old musician Don Carlos.

Intemperie/Out in the Open/2019/Dir.: Benito Zambrano/105 min/Apr 26/3.30 pm

In a tyrannical and oppressive Spain of misery and poorness, a child starts a runaway looking for freedom. It is an adaptation of the 2013 novel Intemperie by Jesús Carrasco. The Western-like fiction is set in Andalusia in 1946. A kid chased by men on behalf of the local overseer finds a shepherd offering him protection.

Ramón is a timid young man about to inherit the empire built by his rigorous and hermetic father. Bermejo is a methodical vacationer, sick of order and an enemy of improvisation. Ayoub, an undocumented African who pursues his dream accompanied by an unbearable woman. And Alipio is a small businessman immersed in gambling addiction and despair… The four star in this comedy made up of interconnected comedy stories that lead us to the conclusion that nothing is as funny as the misfortune of others.

Yuli/Yuli/2018/Dir.: Icíar Bollaín/120 min/Apr 27/6 pm

Carlos Acosta, an Afro-Cuban boy growing up in Havana, is nicknamed Yuli by his father, who is proud of his heritage — the name is drawn from Santería beliefs. He is a talented dancer and is enrolled in a prestigious ballet school by his parents, who are divorced. The film shows his development from a boy who worries that ballet is “effeminate”, to becoming one of the world’s greatest performers and directors, and a pioneer among Black dancers.
